What’s New at Artful Living?!

It’s been a hot minute since a I wrote. I apologize for that.  Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water, the world seems to have lost their minds, again.  I, myself included, but for entirely different reasons. Between home, work, family, and Covid, I have been a wee bit distracted.  But I am back again, to continue our journey in bringing creativity into our lives. I hope all is well with you and I send peace and joy to you.

Awhile ago, a reader asked me how the Tunisian Crochet Temperature Blanket is going.  I replied, “It’s going…”  Ever take on a BIG project and as you get into it, you realize that you may have bitten off more than you can chew? This might be one of those projects. Now, it has taken me, what seems a lifetime, to get this project going.  I was having problems with yarn tension, where some rows were too loose and others too tight.  Then I seemed to drop stitches, then I lost count of the stitches and I was inserting my’ needle between bars all willie-nilly. (I think I might have inadvertently created a new kind of stitch!)  Needless to say this was massively frustrating, especially because I’m a bit dyslexic.  Although, after several attempts I finely got it.  (Sort of.) I am not giving up. It may not exactly be what I thought it would, but that’s OK, because it will be something. (Maybe a MINI Tunisian Crochet Temperature Blanket!)

I’ll be the first to say that practice makes perfect, and I also say that “there are no mistakes in art”.  And as a woman of my word, I’m going to keep those mistakes in the blanket because this is my first time attempting Tunisian Crochet.  My work will show my journey…(at least that’s what I’m telling myself).  I have been practicing and my stitches are getting better. I will say this, I do love how the fabric turns out and how many different stitches there are in Tunisian Crochet. It is amazing making a knit stitch while using a crochet needle. All-in-all the Tunisian Crochet blanket is coming along. I’ll keep you posted

For anyone who knows me, I have the attention span of a two yr. old.  That being said, picking up another art medium is no surprise.  So, let me tell you my new favorite art medium…. PRINTMAKING!  Specifically Geli Printing.  OMG, I am in love!  I love printmaking. I took a lithography class, and an etching class in college. It is an extremely satisfying medium. The printing blocks used are called Gelli Plates.

Geli printing is quick, easy and the supplies are relatively inexpensive.  I will be writing a post dedicated to this art form soon. I can’t wait so show you all the incredible things you can make with your prints. These examples are a few of my first attempts. This is so much fun and anyone can enjoy making prints. I am getting the hang of this medium and it looks promising.

So things are good, despite all the distractions, and concerns in the world. We still need to move forward and what better way to do that than creating art. Art believe it or not is a stress reliever. So, grab your supplies and remember Creativity Happens in all Mediums.

Artfully yours,

Andi
